I'd be surprised if you receive anything more than a cursory automated response. The airlines have served at the pleasure of the Federal Government for decades - which is WHY they're incapable of sustained profitability, or even a reasonable level of customer service. But perhaps most most damningly, I'd argue that the Federal Government's close relationship with the airline industry IS the very reason why airplanes have become instruments of terror in the first place.
Think about the success stories in this industry: Southwest Airlines is it! They're the Chinatown bus version of air travel. Everything is as cheap and simple with as few moving parts as possible. It would be like if Kia was the best car company out there.
The fact that no airline is resisting this disgusting invasion of their customers' privacy is not a surprise.
Other non-surprises: the airline industry will continue to go broke as long as they join themselves at the hip with the Federal Government.
Orbitz's response was not "automated" but it was not very fulfilling either. I am actually surprised that US Air did not even respond, however automated or cursory, to my earlier letter.
But why is so much of the public putting up with this? I believe that if there was full disclosure at the security line, they would not have the high rates of compliance that they do. Scanner images and instructions for how to opt-out would end this insanity in a minute.
Thank you for this website. May I use your letter, modifying it for my airline (Spirit is who I fly most)? Also, I would like to post it on my websites: www.liberty-candidates.org and www.fiftytolife.com with a link back to you.
Thank you. I will look for you on Facebook. An email subscription form would be great -- that is how I follow the blogs I follow.
